Stonehenge in Wiltshire

So many people visit Stonehenge that you can’t get near is anymore. This is not as bad as it sounds because it looks its best from a distance.

Close up, you can marvel at the sheer size of it but, looking at the whole structure, you are only too aware of how deliberate and human it is. One of the first large scale public buildings to be built of stone in this country.

Whilst other monuments have been laid out this one has, most obviously, been constructed. It is hard to look at it without imagining it being built. It took a lot of people, a lot of time and effort to construct this, and it shows.

We might think that our modern public buildings are completely different, but every one of them can trace their origins back to Stonehenge.
