We usually think of beaches as places to go for a bit of sunbathing and larking about
in the water but most of the photographs on this site are of beaches that are very
unlikely to be covered with sun worshipers.
This is because, although the sandy ones look extremely tempting, they are mostly
located in the most remote and cold parts of the Scottish highlands and Islands.
Although you may not want to run around these places in a bathing costume, they offer
the photographer the most wonderful micro landscapes to explore. The border between
the land and the sea is a constantly changing and fascinating place.
Here you will find pictures of sand, sea, stones, driftwood, seaweed, sand dunes
and some of the most amazing rock formations on the planet.
